Co-trimoxazole sensitivity testing: comparison of separate and combined disk agar diffusion techniques.

Five hundred and seven strains of bacteria isolated from the urine of patients with significant bacteriuria (more than 10(8) colony-forming units per litre) were tested for sensitivity to co-trimoxazole by the agar diffusion technique. Each organism was tested with a combined disk containing trimethoprim and sulphamethoxazole in a primary sensitivity test and, at a standardised inoculum, with b...

Comparison of Disk Diffusion, Agar Dilution, and Broth Microdilution for Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing of Five Chitosans

ii Acknowledgements I would like to express my deep appreciation to my advisors Drs. Beilei Ge and Witoon Prinyawiwatkul, for their support, encouragement, and helpful guidance throughout my M. S. study. Their intelligence, enthusiasm, inspiration and academic perspectives impressed me immensely. Also I want to thank Dr. Zhimin Xu, as my committee member, who gave me valuable suggestions and su...

Agar-based disk diffusion assay for susceptibility testing of dermatophytes.

Currently, no agar-based susceptibility testing method has been standardized for testing dermatophytes. We describe a newly developed agar-based method employing disk diffusion assay to test the susceptibility of 47 isolates of dermatophytes against 8 antifungals. Our results show that the method is reproducible, is simple, and could be used to determine the antifungal susceptibility of dermato...

Comparison of antimicrobial susceptibility testing of Campylobacter spp. by the agar dilution and the agar disk diffusion methods.

The correlation and the level of agreement between the standardized agar dilution and the agar disk diffusion methods for antimicrobial susceptibility testing of Campylobacter were investigated. A high-level agreement between the two methods was evident for aminoglycosides and fluoroquinolones, while a low-level agreement was observed for other antibiotics.
